The Business Alliance for Climate is a collaborative initiative between the Government and companies in Jalisco, aimed at promoting the transition toward a more competitive and low-carbon economy.

The main benefits for companies include:

  • Strengthening capacities through training modules on decarbonization and sustainability topics.

  • Positioning in the market as environmentally committed companies.

  • Access to strategic alliances among sectors, national and international partners, and the government.

  • An annual report on the company’s climate performance, with recommendations for decarbonization.

  • Opportunity to offer services for the decarbonization process of affiliated companies.

Companies in AExC commit to:

  • Conducting a GHG inventory, including direct emissions (Scope 1), energy consumption emissions (Scope 2), and supply chain emissions (Scope 3). 

  • Developing a science-based decarbonization plan aligned with international commitments to limit the global temperature increase to 1.5°C. 

  • Developing an emissions reduction plan aligned with Jalisco’s State Climate Strategy for 2050.

 

AExC has three types of membership:

  • Companies in the process of decarbonization: These seek to decarbonize their operations in Jalisco and are interested in participating in ongoing training programs on various topics related to reducing their environmental footprint. They are committed to environmental sustainability and aim to implement cleaner and more efficient practices to combat climate change.

  • Companies offering decarbonization services: These specialize in providing advice, technologies, and solutions to help other organizations reduce their environmental impact and adopt more sustainable practices as part of their decarbonization process.

  • Associations and Chambers: These organizations play a crucial role by uniting efforts to address climate change from different sectors and among their members.

AExC provides tools and guides to calculate emissions, along with training to enable companies to perform GHG inventories following the Corporate Standard of the GHG Protocol.

The Business Alliance for Climate aims to provide training modules focused on key topics for reducing GHG emissions and corporate sustainability.

AExC promotes the exchange of experiences and network creation among companies of various sectors and sizes. Through events and training, companies can collaborate, share best practices, and develop joint sustainability projects.

The Business Alliance for Climate is the first subnational corporate climate alliance in Mexico, focusing on Jalisco. Its public-private nature and science-based climate action approach make it a benchmark in implementing environmental commitments within the business sector. It also promotes knowledge generation and training for companies in Jalisco.

Depending on the type of membership:

  • Companies in the process of decarbonization: Must have operations within Jalisco.

  • Companies offering decarbonization services: Must specialize in advice, technologies, and solutions to help other organizations reduce their environmental footprint.
